Lesser known Travel Places In Sri Lanka

1.Moon Plains

  Moon Plains ( also known as Sandatanne, Sandagalatanne) is the latest attraction open to public in Nuwara Eliya. This was once the dump site of the tons of garbage used by the dwellers of the nearby city. It was cleaned and reconditioned in 2010, and is now classified as an Agricultural and Environmental Tourism Zone by the Municipality of Nuwara EliyaThe plains is located few kilometers off Nuwara Eliya town and is accessed passing the the Government Potato seed Farm at Sita Eliya.The main attraction of Moon Plains is the mini Worlds End at the edge giving a 360 Degree view of the surrounding peaks and towns. The plains is home to Elk, wild buffaloes, dear and many types of birds. This area is also  visited by leopards.





2. Rekawa Beach


  The beach at Rekawa village, 10km east of  Tangalle  bay beach, is home to one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites in Sri Lanka. Rare species like hawksbill, leatherback, Olive Ridley and Green turtles choose shores scattered along this beach strip, owing to its less crowded sites and human interruption.The ideal time to visit these turtle hatcheries is between the months of January to April, especially when there is a full moon.    


3. Sinhagala


  “Sinhagal” means that “The Lion rock”. Legends say that a mighty lion haunted this rock located deep within the Sinahraja rain forest.Trail to Sinhagala peak can take you deep in to the splendid Sinahraja rain forest and you may get a chance to walkon tracks only visited by few. It’s one amongst the most profitable hikes in terms of the range of scenery, landscape and therefore the read from the summit. Since it's a long walk and involves a particularly steep climb to succeed inthe summit, it's arguably the most challenging hikes you'll do in Sinharaja. sinhagala is situated at a protected area of sinharaja forest.Therefore you will be need a permit to enter this area and it can be obtained from the Kudawa Conservation Center.


4.Lover's Leap Falls


  Lover’s leap fall, located at Hawaeliya (Nuwara Eliya- Kandapola road) is the closest water fall from the city of Nuwara Eliya. You can reach there within 2km in distance. It is 30 m in height gets more bombastic during the rainy seasons. While the fall downwards to the Nuwara Eliya beer is begun from the Piduruthalagala reservoir. The fall is said to derive its name from the tragic tale of a prince, who while hunting in the jungle, lost his way. He was rescued by a beautiful damsel, and the two became inseparable lovers. But the match was not to the liking of the prince’s subjects, so the two decided to immortalise their love by leaping from the top of the fall to their death.


5. Waulpane Cave


   This cave is an isolated cavern set against the eastern slopes of the Rakwana vary. It contains a large variety of stalactites and stalagmites and is estimated to be  approximately five hundred million years oldyou may journey Approx. 300mt underground to discover this prehistoric world.While there are few fossils visible within the caverns wall, the main building process is still continuing.The stream, that runs through this cave, becomes a pretty falls at the centergiving you a mysterious and an excitingexpertise.You may encounter few water monitors, Amphibians and thousands of bats during this fully dark cave.
